ALSC president Kirby McCurtis told I Love Libraries (http://www.ilovelibraries.org/article/if-your-kids-need-help-coping-pandemic-look-libraries): “Children and their caregivers can turn to books for solace and support during times of crisis. Through their stories and illustrations, books can help children understand, navigate, and survive these experiences,” McCurtis explains. “A child who might not be ready to talk about a loss or struggle may find an acknowledgment of their sadness when reading about a similar experience in a book.”

Heart-Mind Online

What is Heart-Mind well-being? Focusing both on developing the cognitive aspects (our minds) but also all the qualities that make us human (our hearts) thus giving us meaning in our lives. Heart-Mind Online has conceptualized these into five inter-related social and emotional development domains.
Heart-Mind Online is for those searching for evidenced-informed resources that educate the hearts of children. Individuals and communities can use the resources to support the Heart-Mind well-being of children and promote their positive social and emotional development. The website was developed by the Dalair Lama Center for Peace and Education. Learn more about Heart-Mind Online HERE
The Dalai Lama Center also offers virtual, interactive workshops designed for adults who work with and care for children and youth to promote heart-mind well-being. Learn about upcoming events HERE

If you are searching for evidence-informed resources that educate the hearts of children, check out Heart-Mind Online, a website developed by the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education. This collection of resources builds capacity in individuals and communities to support the Heart-Mind well-being of children and promotes positive social and emotional development.
Resources are provided for families, educators and all others caring for and about children. Search for the latest research, activities, interviews and more. Search by theme (anxiety, empathy, friendship--more) or you can browse all resources. Filter by resources specific to families or educators.
